Pioneer’s “Cherry” and “Leather Belt” Earphones
I don’t know what it is about Japan and earphones, but this country does offer some unique ones . Today, it wasn’t some weird little company but Pioneer that announced strange earphones: One is cherry-shaped [JP], the other looks like a piece of a leather belt [JP] for some reason. Needless to say, the 9mm-earphones aren’t anything special technically, but you will only want to buy these for the design only anyway

Mobile Social Network Mozat Makes Waves In Asia, Raises Funding
Mozat, the mobile social networking platform formerly known as Morange, is making strides in Asia and the Middle East. The eponymous company behind the app has just announced that it has surpassed 10 million registered users, predominantly based in those regions.
The startup has also disclosed that it raised a Series A funding round led by JAFCO Asia earlier this year, although it didn’t disclose the size of the investment.
Mozat is in the mobile social networking business, and markets free J2ME and Symbian clients, a Windows Mobile and an Android app. The company currently doesn’t offer custom apps for iPhone, BlackBerry or Palm WebOS devices (yet), but we should note Mozat targets consumers in regions where those are not nearly as popular as in most Western countries.
Mozat is similar to apps like eBuddy and Nimbuzz, as it enables users to connect and communicate with friends on MSN, YAHOO, ICQ and AOL using a single application. It also boasts other tools like email, chat, photo sharing apps and games, which it distributes through a custom ‘Application Center’ which functions much like Apple’s App Store or the Android Market.
Mozat’s main objective for 2010 is to sign up more mobile operators and ISPs in Asia and the Middle East in order to increase their foothold as the carriers in those regions prepare to roll out more powerful networks in the near future.
Mozat was founded in Singapore back in 2003 by a group of Ph.D. scholars and professors of the National University of Singapore.

Microsoft Has No Answer To China Plurk Debacle
Early this morning we wrote about what appears to be a blatant rip off of Plurk by Microsoft China. Microsoft’s Juku product looks almost exactly like Plurk, and the code appears to almost identical.
Now, more than twelve hours later, Microsoft still has no real response to the situation. It was the middle of the night in China when the story broke, and Microsoft says that they are just now working with their team there to “track down the information.” In the meantime, Juku is being taken down:
Earlier today, questions arose over a feature developed by a third-party vendor for our MSN China joint venture. We are working with our MSN China joint venture to investigate the situation.
Unfortunately, when these questions first arose, it was the middle of the night in China. Now that the day has begun in China, our teams are working hard to track down the information.
Here’s what we know at this point. Our MSN China joint venture contracted with an independent vendor to create a feature called MSN Juku that allowed MSN users to find friends via microblogging and online games. This MSN Juku feature was made available to MSN China users in November and is still in beta.
Because questions have been raised about the code base comprising the service, MSN China will be suspending access to the Juku beta feature temporarily while we investigate the matter fully.
We will provide additional information as we learn more.
Only two things are really clear right now. First, Microsoft is standing around with their pants around their ankles looking pretty ridiculous right now. And second, this is the best thing to happen to Plurk, ever.

Google Figured Out Where New Zealand Is
Last week we wrote about Google’s odd habit of putting the Google New Zealand web site as the top result for a ton of queries like Google Ireland and Google Egypt (and the commenters found many more).
I wondered how long it would take for them to make the change. If they did it right away it would be too obvious. They’d probably wait until the middle of the weekend to fix it.
Today, in the middle of the weekend, they fixed it. And now we can link to a clip from The Chaser’s War On Everything (which is even better than Flight of the Conchords):

LG’s commercial for the BL40 is a big pile of awesome.
Damn it, LG. We found comfort in chalking you up as that phone manufacturer who, though they managed to sell a bajillion phones each month, didn’t do anything awesome.

Someone named Lily Allen has quit the music business because she was exposed as being a hypocritical copyright violator
Do you know who Lily Allen is? I sure as hell don’t, nor do I care to know who she is. I mean, I know who she is now: she’s some musician who is against piracy.
