PostHeaderIcon Pandora open-source handheld is go

For quite a while now, I’ve been following the progress of the Pandora , an open-source handheld for music, movies, and games. It’s hard to stay excited, though, when there’s the constant threat of the thing ceasing to exist. That seemed to be a risk for a while, but now we’re being told that all the hurdles are jumped and the thing will start rolling off the assembly line any moment now

PostHeaderIcon British Library to give away thousands of classics away as e-books

Got a Kindle? Get thee to the British Library! Not only are they giving away a ton of old 19th-century literature in e-book form, but they’re a special “first edition” e-book with the original typeface and illustrations baked in. The 1800s encompass nearly all of my favorite literature, so this is actually making me want a Kindle pretty bad right now

PostHeaderIcon Harper Collins Turning An Excellent Mad Men Website Into A Book

Screen shot 2009-09-15 at 10.07.21 AMMad Men fans rejoice. Soon, you will have your own coffee table book based on the best Mad Men fan website out there, The Footnotes of Mad Men.

Publisher Harper Collins has signed a deal to turn site into a book called The Mad Men Files. It will be written by Los Angeles-based writer/blogger Natasha Vargas-Cooper, who also runs the site. As she writes on the blog, “It will be glossy with pictures and smart things written about the show’s historical and cultural context.

If you’re into AMC’s Mad Men and haven’t been following this blog, don’t wait for the book, starting reading it right now. The site not only covers aspects of the show, but highlights elements of the world in which the show takes place (the early 1960s). Staying true to the idea behind the show, they highlight a lot of great, real advertisements from that era (many are hilarious).

Vargas-Cooper is also the Chief Los Angeles correspondant for The Awl (they have more about the deal) and writes for Gawker. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

PostHeaderIcon Limited edition PAX Razer Moray+ headphones

Oh boy, more limited edition PAX gear ! These don’t differ in any serious way from the normal Moray+ headphones (which I’ve been neglecting and will review shortly), which is to say they’re a solid pair of in-ears with a built-in mic for on-the-go gaming. Plus, the PAX branding makes them awesomer. We gave away a PAX-edition Death Adder last year, and I get the feeling we’ll be doing the same with a pair of Moray+s this year.

PostHeaderIcon Hexagon.cc: Now it’s BitTorrent’s turn to go ‘social’

Social this, social that. Looks like everything is being socialized these days—but not the American health care system, zing!—so it only makes sense for someone to try to socialize BitTorrent . It doesn’t hurt when that “someone” is the people behind IsoHunt, who just launched Hexagon.cc , a message board/social network hybrid built around sharing content.
